Affected by a diagnosis of cancer?
Live in the Heywood, Middleton, or Rochdale area?
This course could be for you:
Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy for Cancer
(MBCT Ca)
8 x 2-hour weekly classes at: Croft Shifa Medical Centre, Rochdale, OL16 2UP
10.00 – 12.00,
2nd June – 21st July 2026
The course is best suited to those who have completed intensive cancer treatment and is not designed for those who are newly diagnosed
Mindfulness is the practice of bringing our attention, in a friendly way, to the experience of the present moment. It is also about relating to ourselves with kindness.
Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy for Cancer - MBCT Ca is an eight-week researched healthcare programme, specifically for those who have or are suffering from cancer.
MBCT Ca is designed for a small group and consists of 8 x 2-hour weekly classes. It includes:
ü Guided instruction in mindful meditation.
ü Short mindfulness practices.
ü Guided gentle physical stretching.
ü Group discussion.
ü Daily home practice.
ü Audios of guided practice and a workbook.
Research shows that Mindfulness can:
|
· Reduce stress · Help with managing chronic pain · Help us live more fully in the present
|
· Reduce worry and over-thinking · Improve sleep and fatigue
|
Is this the right course for me, right now?
Research shows that practicing mindfulness has many benefits, but it is not a “quick fix”. It is important that you can set aside time for both for the weekly class and daily home practice.
Mindfulness teachers:
The course is facilitated by experienced mindfulness teachers, who teach mindfulness in line with current BAMBA Good Practice Guidelines, with one working in oncology for over 20 years.
Next Steps if you are interested in attending the 8-week MBCT Ca course:
Self-refer online at https://iaptportal.co.uk/roch.html and put MBCT for Cancer under the reason for self-referral from the drop down list “What type of support do you feel you can commit to right now?”.
Or you can telephone HMR NHS Talking Therapies Service on 01706 619020 and request the mindfulness for cancer programme.
