Asthma Winter Plan

Key Information

The Risk: As the days get shorter and colder, it is a crucial time to focus on your asthma. Winter is a difficult season because colds and flu are major triggers for asthma attacks.

The Goal: Follow these three simple steps to "Winter-Proof Your Asthma Plan" and stay well.

Step 1: Get Your Flu Jab

This is the single most important step you can take.

  • Why? It is your best defense against the most common trigger for a serious winter asthma attack.
  • Action: If you are eligible, book your free annual flu vaccine immediately.

Step 2: Check Your Inhalers

Take a look at your inhalers now, before you get unwell.

  • Expiry: Are they in-date?
  • Supply: Do you have enough to last through the holidays or cold snaps?
  • Why? Being prepared is key. You do not want to wait until you are already unwell to find out you have run out of medication.

Step 3: Review Your Action Plan

Get out your personal Asthma Action Plan.

  • Refresh: Re-read the advice on what to do if your symptoms start getting worse.
  • Emergency Steps: Remind yourself of the exact steps to take during an attack.
  • Benefit: Knowing your plan by heart helps you act quickly and stay calm in an emergency.

What Happens Next?

If you feel your asthma is not well controlled, or if you do not have an up-to-date Personal Action Plan, please do not wait.
